Camberwell Life App - Power Hour

One hour a month. 100% Local Reach.

The best way to use the app isn’t to check it every day—it’s to “set and forget.” Follow this simple cycle once a month. Doing it in the last week of the month for the one ahead is the perfect time. it’ll help you to stay at the top of the local feed.

Check Your Impact (10 Mins)

The Growth Factor: Check the “Total App Downloads.” Our central marketing team is constantly working to grow this number. Every month, your potential audience gets bigger while you focus on your business. It’s great to see that the work you’re about to put in will reach even more locals.

Review Your Reach: Look at your analytics to see how many phones your notifications landed on. Because mobile privacy settings sometimes under-report digital “opens” the number you reached we say on average is actually about 25% higher.

The Offer Freshness Cycle (20 Mins)

The “Top of the Pile” Trick: Update your existing offers to keep them fresh, be it the photo or key info. Ensuring you take down any that are no longer relevant. It’s a great idea to consider using one of your offer spots for a NHS, Emergency Services and Student discount – we will centrally be highlighting these throughout the year.

Seasonal Hooks: Align your offers with what’s happening in Camberwell. Is it a Bank Holiday? Mother’s Day? Adjust your title to catch the eye.

Social Sync: Save time! Copy and paste the text and photos from your latest Instagram or Facebook posts. If the content is already working on social media, it will work perfectly here.

The Calendar Fill (20 Mins)

Pick Your Event Highlights: Upload your key events for the month ahead (Pub Quizzes, Workshops, Special Menus). It’s best to focus on special events such as special taster sessions to classes, big acts in your venue or something new and unusual to get the attention of app users.

Call to Action: Don’t just say what it is; tell them what to do. Use phrases like “Book your table via the link below” or “Just turn up and say hi!” to remove any “social anxiety” for the user. be sure to link to any booking platform in the event – it’s designed to take people to buying tickets or securing a spot.

Recurring Events: If you have a weekly event (like a Tuesday Quiz), don’t just list it once. List it for the 4 weeks ahead. It fills up the “What’s On” calendar and makes your business look like the place to be.

The Newsletter Inside Knowledge (no time!)

Get Featured: Our community newsletter goes out on the 1st of every month. So updating all your content the week before is perfect!

Bait the Hook: The “randomizer” loves high-quality photos and great descriptions. Use your brightest, clearest image to increase your chances of being picked for that extra boost of free promotion.

Schedule Your “Pings” (10 Mins)

Set and Forget: You have 2 direct-to-phone notifications each month. Don’t wait—schedule them both now!

Own the Message: Start or end your notification with a personal touch: “Sent to you by the team at [Business Name].” It reminds residents there are real people behind the screen, not just an algorithm.

Keep it Brief: Mobile screens are small. If your notification is longer than two short sentences, the most important part (the “What to do”) might get cut off. Aim for under 160 characters for the best impact.

Talk to a Neighbor, Not a Customer: Avoid “Sales-speak.” Instead of “20% off all inventory,” try “We’ve got a little treat for our Camberwell neighbors today—20% off everything in-store.”

Time to Relax: You’re done. Your local marketing is handled for the next 30 days.

Functionality - FAQs

Absolutely nothing for now! Thanks to funding from Southwark Council, businesses in Camberwell can try the app for free until September 2026. See if it works for you and drives customers to your business. After this, you decide if you want to stay or not. Depending on how many people stay on the app, there will be a small monthly charge.

The app has been built with business owners in mind and already many BIDs and city centres in the UK are using it. The interface is easy to use but if you get stuck or have questions, we are here to help you.

Yes! Once you’re invited to set up your page, you’ll be able to request an in-person training session. We’ll walk you through how to make the most of the app’s key features, and you’ll have a chance to ask any questions. Just email us to find out more: hello@camberwell.life.

The project is funded by the London Borough of Southwark through Community Investment Levy funding. The SE5 Forum successfully bid for this to help support local businesses and community groups.
